It is important to choose the right weight and size blanket for each child. The broad recommendation is 5% to 10% of a person’s body weight. Doctor’s consultation is recommended before deciding on a weighted blanket for your child.
Weighted blankets are not suitable for children under the age of 2.
It is important children only use a weighted blanket to cover their body and never their head.
Occupational therapists may recommend using a weighted blanket to help with sensory over-responsivity. Pressure therapy from the weight provides soothing and calming hug simulations. Studies reported improved overall quality of sleep in children, including time falling asleep, frequency of waking up in the night, duration of sleep, and behaviour upon waking in the morning.

The blanket can be machine washed on gentle cycle using cold or warm water and mild detergent but no softener and no bleach. Larger blankets should be washed in a front-loading machine or a machine without a centre agitator, as the agitator may damage the blanket.
You can machine dry your weighted blanket on gentle or delicate cycle and cool or warm heat. Do not iron. You may also line dry outside the in the sun (air dry).
For heavyweight blankets (over 12 pounds), dry -clean is recommended. A better option is to purchase a duvet cover for easier cleaning.
